Children's Ministries
No one is more important than our
children. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and forbid them
not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19.14) At Licking
Christian Church we have a number of resources for children to help them
feel welcome and, most important, get to know Jesus.
NURSERY: A nursery is provided during the 11 a.m. Morning Worship for
children from birth until they reach the age of four. A trained nursery
worker will be glad to take care of your child. Parents also may use the
nursery for feeding, changing or any other needs not only during this
service but during all other activities of the church.
SUNDAY SCHOOL: In addition to our Adult and Jr.-Sr. High classes in the 10
a.m. Sunday School hour, we have the following children’s classes which
meet every Sunday.
4 years-Kindergarten
Grades 1-2
Grades 3-4
Grades 5-6
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS: Our Wednesday night program takes place at 7 p.m. during
the (Licking R-8 District) school year. It is not in session during summer
vacation and Christmas break. We have the following classes for children.
Grades 1-3
Grades 4-6
The 4th-6th Grade class is also referred to as our “Bible Club”. In
addition to their lesson curriculum this class learns their books of the
Bible and has occasional special events. There is an overnight lock-in for
this group every year, usually late in the year. In the Spring, right
after we dismiss for Summer vacation, this class takes its annual trip.
Over the years this trip has been to a variety of fun spots including the
St. Louis Zoo, Elephant Rocks, Mountauk State Park, Meramec Caverns, and
The Centre in Rolla.
SUMMER EVENTS: While our Wednesday program is not going during the summer
some great special events go on instead. We participate in Rock Garden
Christian Service Camp. There are camp events for all the children from
incoming first graders on up. Grades 1 and 2 go for an annual overnighter.
Grades 3-4 have a three day camp. Grades 5-6 have “full” five day camp
weeks just like their big brothers and sisters in junior high and high
school!
Our second big summer event is KIDS WEEK. This is our own unique, locally
produced, Vacation Bible School which runs from Sunday night through
Thursday night. Dates and times should be posted on our announcements page
no later than Spring for the year at hand. Children from 4 years old
through incoming 8th grade students will thrill to meaningful lessons,
interesting crafts, music, missions, and occasional surprises. We usually
have a swimming party to reward those with good attendance.
KIDS CHOIR: Like music? Then Kids Choir is for you if you are in Grades
2-6! Parents sign the necessary release form which can be picked up at
Licking Christian Church and our van will pick you up at Licking
Elementary School at the end of the school day on Fridays. We will
practice some fun songs of praise and faith for about half an hour and
then our van will deliver you home. Kids Choir performs for Morning
Worship usually about once a month during the school year. In recent years
it has also put on a special presentation around Easter time for the local
nursing home. Other special events could be planned as opportunity arises.
Kids Choir operates during the school year. Kids Choir members often get
some special rewards after they perform!
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Every year in mid-December, we put on our Christmas
Program one Sunday night. This involves our elementary age children and
occasionally some older or younger. Those who desire to do so get to share
in the telling of the Christmas Story in drama, spoken word, and song.
